🌹 🎶 Slowing Down & Simplifying 🎶🌹 The slow philosophy can be summed up in a single word: balance. Be fast when it makes sense to be fast, and be slow when slowness is called for. Seek to live at what musicians call the tempo giusto - the right speed. - Carl Honoré, In Praise Of Slow Hope you are keeping well and enjoying the simple, beautiful natural delights of whatever season it is in your world and whatever tempo you are moving at! I've been learning how to slow down and simplify - which is why this newsletter is arriving rather late in the month of May :) - and realising that just as much, if not more, can happen at a slower pace.
🌹 🎶 Freeing Your Voice 🎶🌹 Singing can be beautifully simple - as we sing, we move, we breathe, we become a stand for freedom - our own and others.
Liberating ourselves and our voices is the theme of this month's Vocal Revolution Podcastwith singer, vocal consultant and singing teacher Michael Harper. It's a powerful call to freedom personally and collectively.
If you're looking to still down, we'll be returning to the essence of breathing, moving and singing at the next Soothing Sunday Sing on June 12th.
As we sing - whether solo or in choir, we build a sonic sanctuary which can renew and restore our sense of being creatively fulfilled, connected, expressed and resourced.
Wishing you much joy in the slow and simple pleasures of life... and the freedom to sing and smell the roses!
🌹 🎶 Vocal Revolution Podcast Ep 19 🎶🌹 Freeing Your Voice with Michael Harper
🌹 🎶 "Be yourself child" - singer, vocal consultant and singing teacher Michael Harperreflects on how we can free our voices and take a stand for freedom in the face of oppression.
One of six vocal coaches on the recent Sky Arts series Anyone Can Sing, Michael describes the process of teaching singing asfreeing the person, freeing the mind, the breath from all of the things that stopped people from being their true selves.
Committed to exploding the canon and teaching the complete history of Music, Michael has recently established the Williams-Howard Prize, a new annual competition at the Royal Northern College of Music, to celebrate and encourage the study and performance of art songs of composers of African heritage.
In this empowering podcast, he encourages us to be vigilant and carry on the work of challenging and opening up ways forward beyond oppression.
