Shiva's Rain

Dedicated to healing the inner and outer waters, Shiva's Rain is an album of songs to swim in. Dive deep in the waters of oceanic mantras and melodies and surf the songwaves

"a truly beautiful and inspiring piece of devotional work."

- Nikki Slade, Free the Inner Voice

Shiva's Rain is the latest release from Katie Rose, featuring love songs for the inner waters, songs for the seas of the world and devotional songs invoking the divinity of water.

Stirred by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Katie was moved to dedicate her new album to water in order to raise funds and awareness about water issues.

Water is a precious life-giving substance which forms about 70% of our bodies and covers 70% of the planet.  Only 2.75% of the world's water is drinkable and this vital resource is being polluted at a devastating rate.  14,000 people and countless numbers of sea creatures die daily as a result of water pollution.

The ancient shamans and teachers of many spiritual traditions used sound to attune with the natural world. Contemporary scientists such as Dr Masuru Emoto and Alexander Lauterwasser have been able to provide photographic evidence of the effect of different words and sounds on water crystals.

Shiva's Rain comes with an invitation to visualize pure, clean water for all and to move towards sustainable solutions for our planet:

"Just as whales transmit sounds to each other across long distances, the sound waves of our songs ripple out beyond us into the universe.  It is my sincere hope that this album will be both soothing and stirring to the waters within and without."

Having experienced the profound power of mantra to calm troubled waters, Katie was drawn particularly to Shiva mantras.  This Hindu deity can be seen as the spirit of cleansing, creative destruction, as found in the wild waves of storms and seas.  His hair is said to be the water of the river Ganges and, like Neptune in Western mythology, he carries a trident.

These powerful mantras form the core of the album which also includes a jazz standard, Gospel songs, Buddhist and Sikh mantra interwoven with original material. Waves of vocal harmonies, gong, flute and piano layered over ambient beats invite the listener to float away on an ocean of grace.
